A chignon that survived a Bosphorus wind, a boat between two venues and about two hundred photographs.

She wanted nothing that looked done. We trialled it six weeks before, in the same humidity she would be married in, and I made her walk around the studio for twenty minutes with a fan on.

On the day I set it dry at the hotel in Karakoy: a low knot at the nape, two pieces left at the temples, eleven pins and no lacquer until the last five minutes. It moved between the ceremony and the boat and it stayed exactly where it was.

A two-chair room above the simit oven on Akarsu Yokusu. Colour built for the grow-out, cuts done dry, six clients a day at most - so nobody sits in foils waiting for me to come back. Colour consultations are free and take twenty minutes.
