She brought a ribbon that had been at two weddings before hers and asked whether it could be used without looking like a costume. The answer is: only if the hair around it is completely undone.

So the crown is smooth and everything below it is left alone, and the ribbon goes in at the last moment, tied once, ends left long. We trialled it in the studio and then I drove to Ayvalik and did it again in a room with better light and worse mirrors.

A two-chair room above the simit oven on Akarsu Yokusu. Colour built for the grow-out, cuts done dry, six clients a day at most - so nobody sits in foils waiting for me to come back. Colour consultations are free and take twenty minutes.
