Wet cutting a curl pattern like this is guessing. Every coil shrinks by a different amount, so the shape you balance at the backwash is not the shape that turns up on the street.

I cut her dry, curl by curl, taking length from inside the shape rather than off the perimeter, and I take nothing above the ear. It took an hour and forty minutes and she has not had a triangle since.
